Flavor Capture – Software for Sensory Panels

Beer flavor and flavor stability are of major importance for the success of the individual beer brand.
Flavor Capture is the professional software that covers and optimizes all the working procedures in evaluating beer flavors and monitoring the taste panel performance allowing for optimization of resources allocated to the brewery taste panel.

Flavor Capture covers the following standard working procedures

Administration and Preparation for Taste Session

Registration and maintenance of system users - tasters, observers and administrators.
Registration and maintenance of brewery site identity and contact information.
Registration and maintenance of sample groups and samples.
Sample activation and generation of randomised glass marks of samples for taste evaluation.
Creation and printing of the ‘sample activation report.

Taste Panel Front End

Sample taste evaluation in web front end by taste panel. Samples are tasted anonymously and in randomised order.
Review and approval of taste evaluation results by taste panel leader and administrator

Reporting of Results

Creation, printing and e-mailing of taste evaluation reports and internal evaluation reports by administrator – batch printing is possible.
Monitoring the performance of the taste panel and performance of the individual tasters/observers against the taste panel average.
 

 


 

Key Benefits

Resource saving
Resources can be saved for the administrative procedures especially in connection with registration of samples and preparing the taste evaluation reports. Estimated 1-1½ man-hours in administrative work by laboratory technician, secretary or similar can be saved for each taste panel session consisting of e.g. 6 beer samples.

Fast reporting time
The software allows for a very fast reporting time. The taste evaluation reports can easily be created, printed and sent by e-mail within one hour after the taste evaluation to the receivers in QC or production.

Error elimination
Typing errors in connection with creation of the taste evaluation report will be avoided due to the taste panel’s scores for main characteristics, off-flavors and general evaluation will be transferred automatically to the taste evaluation report after approval of taste evaluation results.

Low cost hardware requirements and world-wide access possible
The taste evaluation front end used by tasters/observers is a pure web front end allowing access from anywhere in the world and supporting very thin clients like old, used laptops.

Tasters and observers can enter their taste evaluation results and, following the session, immediately compare their results against those of the other panel members and the overall panel average on the specific sample.

Sample identity can be viewed by the tasters/observers when all tasters have entered and approved taste evaluation results on all samples.

Easy interfacing
The taste evaluation results can easily be transferred from the software database to a spreadsheet e.g. Excel, where data can be analysed statistically and where weekly, monthly and yearly summary reports can be prepared. Alternatively, Flavor Capture can be modified to meet special requirements for summary reports.

Flavor Capture is prepared for automatic interfacing with various economic systems allowing for example for intercompany invoicing between a corporate panel and licence brewers with minimum requirements.
